About our history

Measuring Success was founded in 2003 and grew out of research work in performance measurement by our founder, Sacha Litman, at the Harvard Business School, Kellogg Business School, and the Harvard Kennedy School from 2000-2003. Our founder was one of the pioneers in the field of non-profit performance measurement: his work in performance measurement for non-profits began while he was an analyst at McKinsey and Company by observing approaches used in for-profit clients and the absence of such data in non-profit (pro bono) work, and then his successful development of a performance measurement system for a national franchised non-profit organization where he was Director of Organizational Strategy. Our methodologies and approaches have been published in the Stanford Social Innovation Review (inaugural issue), and we speak regularly at Social Enterprise conferences.

About our people

Our team, consisting of professionals with a unique combination of skills sets in consulting, statistical analysis, and technology development to enable us to perform projects that strategy firms, software development firms or quantitative consulting firms cannot. We employ full time professional staff, support staff, and a network of vetted associates.

"I honestly wasn’t sure at first why we were asked to spend 6 hours reviewing the results of our survey. But now I understand it was worth every minute. You’ve saved us a year of strategic planning. I am very busy in my work, so as the board chair, this allows me to use my time so much better because I am basing decisions in data instead of sorting out a lot of processes and non-representative opinions or emotions when parents complain to me."
